Oh No, I Missed It….Again
If you are like me, you have probably had one of those moments when something unexpected happened and you wanted to get a picture of it. Most of us know that does not always work out. We probably all know someone who is good at being in the right place at the right time and being prepared. Unfortunately, most of us are not one of them.
There have been many instances where I was lucky enough to see something unusual or unique, yet I was unable to get my phone camera ready fast enough and missed getting a picture or video.
Some of those events were newsworthy, but most of the time it was just something unique or unusual that I would have liked to get on film to remember and show others. The sad thing is that while trying to get my phone out and the camera on, I not only missed the picture but I missed getting a close look at the live situation because of looking at my phone.
Recently I was taking a couple selfies of myself and my wife. Thinking my phone camera would automatically default to regular picture mode, I saw a couple military helicopters flying over. For once I quickly got my phone on video mode and captured them. Unfortunately, when I opened the video and played it, all I saw was my face looking into the camera. It was still in selfie mode.
For most of us, I think it is better to just forget trying to get a picture and focus on the situation at hand. Rather than miss both the event and the picture, at least get a good look at what is going on right in front of your eyes.
The thing to remember is that the majority of us have built-in cameras and hard drives, which of course, are our eyes and brain. We can be ready to capture and store those unusual events for a lifetime even when we are unable to get our phone or camera ready. When we are in the right place at the right time but not prepared with a camera, we can still capture the moment and enjoy it for years to come.
So, if you are one of those people who are prepared and quick with a camera, keep getting those unique and unusual shots and post them on Instagram for those of us who cannot get the camera ready in time. At least we can enjoy what we actually saw and enjoy the pictures of others also.
